Psalm 103:11-12 - God's good things! - Love and forgiveness

Day 817:  Twas the Thursday before Christmas and all through your life ? ? ?  We’re continuing our daily devotions on the ‘good things’ God has given us at Christmas (and always) from Psalm 103.

Scripture:  For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love towards me as I fear Him.  As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed my transgressions from me!   Psalm 103:11,12

Thoughts/questions:  Describing concepts like eternity, forever, absence, or gone using analogies is certainly difficult and wrapping our finite brain around them isn’t easy either.  These verses attempt to give us a word picture of two vital concepts in our relationship with God – His love and His forgiveness!

To describe how great and vast God’s love is for us, the Psalmist states that it is comparable to the distance between earth and heaven!  Today, scientists estimate that our known universe has a radius from earth of approximately 300,000,000,000,000 (300 trillion) miles.  To put that in a little bit of perspective, that distance is similar to traveling to the moon and back 60,000,000 times – pretty big!!!

And then to describe how far our sins have been removed, you just double that – 600 trillion miles!  And that’s only the known universe!!!  While changing, God’s infinite universe is not expanding, but our awareness and knowledge of it is.  Just how many miles is forever???

Yes, we ARE loved!!!  Yes, we ARE forgiven!!!  The phrase, ‘God loves you’ is so overused that we don’t realize the extent of it and maybe we cannot!  BUT, not coming to grips with the total expanse of His love shouldn’t hinder us from seeking to come to an increasing awareness of His love and experiencing that love in growing measure every day!!!

Whereas we can’t seem to forgive AND forget, God can and does – removing our sins 600 trillion miles from us!  Now that’s forgiving AND forgetting!  He forgives with ‘no sins attached’!!!

Mentally incomprehensible? – Maybe!  But spiritually our prayer should always be that God would gift us with the knowledge and understanding in an ever increasing fashion regarding His inexhaustible love and complete forgiveness!!!

Suggested prayer:  Lord, touch my heart so that I never forget how much I am loved and how completely I am forgiven . . .
