Daily Readings – God’s desire and delight!

Day 1785: The email feed has been very inconsistent lately. Frustrating for me to post each day and for you not to receive them regularly . . .

Scripture:  For You do not desire sacrifices, or else I would give it. You do not delight in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart— these, O God, You will not despise. Psalm 51:16, 17

Thoughts/questions: Broken – a broken spirit and a broken heart. David knew what being broken was all about, and he wrote this Psalm in response to his sinning with Bathsheba and Uriah. Pride got him into it, and being broken and contrite got him out of it.

Sacrifices and burnt offerings can be made from contrition and brokenness, but are often points of pride or a response to legalism. Therefore, God desires humility. Being broken! Realizing the depth of our sin and our role in it. Knowing deep in our soul that, yes, it was our sin that brought Jesus to the cross.

Not me – Him. Not my perfection, effort, or merit – His. Not my glory – His.

Suggested prayer: Lord Jesus, I’m so sorry for my sinful ways. Thank You for ALL You’ve done for me . . .
