Daily Readings – Freedom in praise!

Day 1797: Last day of August already!!!

Scripture: Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands unto Your name!  Psalm 63:3, 4

Thoughts/questions: These verses were the basis of a worship chorus in the 70’s. At that time, Pentecostals were the primary ones who were physically expressive in their worship. However, the Jesus movement was underway, and the dynamics of worship were evolving.

The phrase ‘I will lift up my hands unto Your name’ was enough to get this stodgy Dutchman to edge his hand skyward. It was the only song we would do ‘such a thing’ to, but change was in the works! Now, we will sometimes attend a Christian Reformed Church and hands are raised everywhere! Things have changed!

Praise to God MUST be done in complete freedom. Not forced to fit in or contrived to appear spiritual, but a wholehearted expression of worship and praise regardless of how you look. Stoic or dancing – it doesn’t matter. Just make sure you follow the Spirit’s leading and worship in freedom and in truth!

Suggested prayer: Lord, may my praises reflect my heart . . .
