Daily Readings – Obedience Trumps Emotions!

Day 1814: Spent time with the parents and some of the grandkids – gotta love family!

Scripture: Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You; according to the greatness of Your power preserve those who are appointed to die. Return to our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom their reproach with which they have reproached You, O Lord.  Psalm 79:11, 12

Thoughts/questions: The Voice of the Martyrs regularly reports on and helps those Christ followers who are ‘groaning’ as a result of persecution. This weekend I was convicted regarding my attitude towards those doing the persecution.

Jesus said to ‘pray for our enemies’ and I have only been praying for my brothers and sisters. Pray for our enemies – not these folks. Oh, Jesus did not add an asterisk and include exceptions. So now when praying for the persecuted, I am going to follow Jesus unnatural (but supernatural) command and pray for those doing the persecuting as well.

Obedience has to trump my feelings!

Suggested prayer: Lord Almighty, I ask You to work in the hearts of those persecuting my fellow believers. May the testimony of those being persecuted bring souls to Your kingdom . . .
