Daily Readings – Can That Really Be?

Day 1852:  TGIF – Thank God I’m Forgiven!

Scripture: The righteous will be remembered forever. He will not fear evil tidings; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is upheld, he will not fear!  Psalm 112:6b-8a

Thoughts/questions: Bad news – not only does it travel fast, it is never welcome! When someone says ‘I’ve got some bad news,’ everyone around them gets anxious and turns somber and serious.

Could the Psalmist be correct or is it a pipe dream that the righteous will not fear evil tidings? No fear? When you have a teenager, every night they are gone and the phone rings, fear arises!

Maybe not fearing bad news is conditional! The verses indicate that being righteous, having a steadfast heart, and trusting in the Lord are those conditions. If we really trust God with a steadfast heart AND God is good ‘all the time,’ then can any news be evil?

Won’t God take care of us? The fallen world is filled with free moral agents making bad choices impacting us, BUT hasn’t God promised to pick up the pieces? May we all seek to trust Him more!

Suggested prayer: Lord, I believe, help my unbelief . . .
