Daily Readings – What is Man?

Day 1893: Off to do some weekend babysitting for the Grandkids – good stuff!

Scripture: Lord, what is man, that You are mindful of him? Or the son of man, that You think of him? Man is like a mere breath; his days are like a passing shadow. How blessed are the people whose God is the Lord!    Psalm 144:3, 4; 12a

Thoughts/questions: Often we become so self oriented that we forget the big picture. 7 billion other people; 3 x 10 to the 23rd power of planets; a universe that goes on FOREVER; animals everywhere, nature on the earth alone and more!

So the Psalmist has a valid question – what is man, that You are mindful of him? If I’m gone, there are 7 billion others and babies are continually being born throughout the world. We are but a tiny, tiny speck. One of oh so many!

But we are HIS speck! Chosen as a special child; loved beyond measure; treasured enough to die for; a friend of God!!! Yes, ‘How blessed are the people whose God is the Lord!’

Suggested prayer: Almighty God, I am so small, but You have made me worthy . . .
