Christmas Carols – 3 good questions!

Day 1903: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!!

Scripture: My attitude should be the same as Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:5

Thoughts/questions: The Christmas carol, Do You Hear What I Hear, is a relatively new carol written in 1962 against the background of potential nuclear war during the Cuban missile crisis.

It asked 3 very pertinent questions about seeing, hearing, and knowing:  1) – are we seeing what God sees or is our vision restricted to that small tunnel which only allows things pertaining to ‘self’ to be seen. May our desire be to really see with the eyes of God! Open our eyes, Lord!

2) – when we hear do we 1) hear the voice of God, and 2) actually hear what others are trying to communicate? May we be sensitive to the words of those around us and may we open our spiritual ears to hear God’s voice! Open our ears, Lord!

3) – sometimes we say that we ‘know’ the things of God, but do we REALLY know? May God give us the assurance of truly knowing His promises. Lord, help me to know like You know!

The last line is about listening – Listen! Not just hear God but listen as when we say to our kids ‘you’re not listening to me’ when we know they audibly hear us, but are not obeying. Do we trust and obey or ??? Lord, help us to truly listen!

Suggested prayer: Sovereign Lord, may I see, hear, and know what You see, hear, and know . . .
