Christmas Carols – No comma!

Day 1912: Amazing the difference punctuation can make!

Scripture: (Jesus speaking) “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” John 14:27

Thoughts/questions: Silent night!  Holy night!  All is calm; all is bright___’round yon virgin mother and Child. Today I wanted to expand on a point made in an earlier devotional. My initial understanding of this carol was in a global sense and was confusing. In today’s world, ALL is definitely NOT calm and bright!

However, the song is not referring to a global calmness and light. The world at Jesus’ birth was also filled with turmoil and wars inside and outside the Roman Empire. The carol refers to the calmness and light surrounding Mary and Jesus and the ‘personal’ peace we can have in a troubled world!

The present world’s situation can trouble our hearts and cause fear. Yet by being close to Jesus, His light and calmness can bring us peace. Don’t get caught up in the world’s mess – it IS peaceful close to Jesus!!!

Suggested prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You for bringing me Your peace . . .
