Words in Red – New things!

Day 1937: Friday!!! TGIF – Thank God I’m Forgiven!

Scripture:  Do the wedding guests fast while celebrating with the groom?  Of course not!  So long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.  But the day will come when the bridegroom will no longer be with them, and then they will fast.”  Mark 2:19, 20

Context:  The religious leaders again were challenging Jesus’ behavior. Their followers and the followers of John were fasting, but the Christ followers were not.

Thoughts/questions:  At a time when certain religious leaders were fasting twice a week, here comes Jesus who, while not abolishing the law, was bringing something new:  1) Fasting is an excellent spiritual practice, but His followers were not bound by good when better was at hand; and 2) His new teachings could not be included into their old lifestyle.  He was bringing ‘new life’ that would change everything about His followers.

Jesus asks us to regularly reflect on our ‘good’ and consider if there might be a ‘better’ at this time in our lives.  And He challenges us to completely eliminate some of our old habits, and start new ones.  Ask God to reveal to you anything that you might need to stop completely. Or even something good that needs to be put on hold for a more appropriate time or replaced with something better!

Suggested Prayer:  Jesus, I am Yours.  Reveal anything in me that I should stop doing or thinking . . .
