Words in Red – Lord of all?

Day 1938: May your day be filled with His peace and love . . .

Scripture:  “Haven’t you ever read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?  When Abiathar was the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful for only the priests to eat.  And he gave some to his companions.  The Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath.  The Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.  Mark 2:25-28

Context:  The religious leaders questioned Jesus as to why He and His disciples were picking grain on the Sabbath, which violated one of their Sabbath (Saturday) laws.

Thoughts/questions:  Who is this Jesus guy?  Crazies and demoniacs calling Him God, hanging out with sinners and tax collectors, telling stories about weddings and wine, forgiving people’s sins, and now completely ignoring Jewish tradition.

The religious leaders were incensed, yet Jesus calmly continues to respond to their criticism with thought provoking questions.  Here He doesn’t stop with just questioning, as He makes His point while also demonstrating to the religious leaders His knowledge of Hebrew scripture and their history.  An amazing leader!

As our Creator, Jesus is Lord of all creation – except for us!  We have choice!  The choice of when we should ‘pick grain on the Sabbath’ and when we shouldn’t!  The choice of who sits on the throne of our lives – Him or us.  As Lord, He has given us two things – all of creation to enjoy and choice.  Relish creation and choose wisely!

Suggested Prayer:  Jesus, help me to make You Lord every day . . .
