Words in Red – Still?

Day 1947:  Today, a thought-provoking question!

Scripture:  “Let’s go to the other side of the lake.”  “Peace, be still!”  “Why are you so afraid?  Do you still not have faith in me?”  Mark 4:35b, 39b, 40

Context:  That evening after a long day of teaching Jesus suggested they go across the lake.  A storm arose, the boat was filling with water, and the terrified disciples woke Jesus saying, “Don’t You care whether or not we perish?”

Thoughts/questions:  be still” – This refers to being quiet and at peace.  Immediately after these words were spoken, the roaring storm ceased and the lake was calm.  The ‘impact of the Master’ brought quietness and peace!

Do you still not” – This refers to something that still exists that probably shouldn’t!  Jesus’ disciples had seen miracles, demons cast out, parables spoken and more, but the ‘impact of the Master’ had not taken full effect.  They were good when the crowds were gathering and positive things were happening, but when they felt endangered, they reacted with fear not faith.

So, which ‘still’ are you?  At peace/calm/quiet?  Or ‘still’ worried/upset/in an uproar? Bottom line – the ‘impact of the Master’ has influenced your life, but how much more is needed for you to “trust in the Lord with ALL of your heart?”

The question Jesus asked the disciples is the question He is asking us today, “Do you still not have faith in me?”

Suggested Prayer:  Lord, help me to trust in You with all of my heart; and to be still and know that you are God and I am not . . .
