Words in Red – Rest, reflect, respond!

Day 1953:  Continuing ‘words in red’ – Jesus’ words recorded in the gospel of Mark!

Scripture:  “Come with me by yourselves to a secluded place and rest awhile.”  “You give them something to eat.”  “How many loaves do you have?  Go and find out.”    Mark 6:31, 37a, 38a

Context:  Jesus is speaking to his disciples in both instances.  The first is after they returned from going out individually to minister and people were surrounding them.  The second is when Jesus fed the five thousand with two loaves of bread and five fish.

Thoughts/questions:  One of the great things about being a Christ follower is that it is not a formula laden life derived from a self-help book.  It is a vibrant, changing, evolving relationship in which individuals express their personal unique giftedness within the parameters and principles given by the living God!  Jesus’ words today are an example of the principles He set forth, but each of our responses will not be the same, as Holy Spirit will uniquely guide us as to the best way to individually put into practice these words of Jesus!!!

Come with me and rest awhile – we know we need physical rest, but Jesus tells us to come with Him.  This is not referring to a ‘vacation’, but is a decision to get alone with Jesus and rest in Him!!!  Go and find out – find out what?  Find out the assets God has provided you with regarding whatever situation you are facing.  You give – we’ve rested in Him, we’ve considered our giftedness, now it is time to DO something.  Jesus was responsible for the miracle of feeding the 5,000, but WHOM did He use to do the actual work???  He has chosen us!  What a privilege!

There is a time to rest, a time to reflect, and a time to respond!

Suggested Prayer:  Holy Spirit, help me to take time to rest, to reflect on all You have gifted me with, and to respond by doing something . . .
