Words in Red – Questions???

Day 1912: Seek first His kingdom!

Context:  Jesus returned to an agitated crowd gathered around His disciples who were not able to cast out the evil spirit of a severely possessed man.   When the man saw Jesus, the spirit threw the man to the ground in convulsions.

Scripture:  “What are you arguing with them about?”     “You unbelieving generation, how long will I stay with you?  How long must I put up with you?  Bring the boy to me.”  “How long has this been happening to him?”  Mark 9:16,19,21

Thoughts/questions:  Jesus often used purposeful questions.  His first question forced the disciples to identify the fact that they were not able to perform what Jesus had just recently empowered them to do, but were arguing instead.  That sounds like us sometimes – instead of trusting God in all of our circumstances, we argue with Him and rationalize our behaviors.  Lord, help us to trust more and argue less!

How long?  Just how many experiences with God do we have to go through before we finally completely bow the knee to Jesus?  He has done so much for us, yet sometimes I’m sure we frustrate Jesus like His disciples did.  Lord, help us to have been with You enough – enough to recognize You as the Lord of lords and the Lord of us!

I believe His last question was for the crowd – so that they would fully understand the duration and severity of the man’s issues, and the magnitude of his forthcoming healing! For us, how long have we been sinning – long enough to need a Savior!  I trust that we all recognize the magnitude of our sins being forgiven – we needed Him as much as anyone!  Lord, help us to realize the magnitude of our forgiveness!

Suggested Prayer:  Lord, thank You for being patient with me . . .
