Words in Red – Give and Serve!

Day 1930: Excitedly waiting for our fourth grandchild due last week Saturday. Today would be a good day!!!

Context:  The other ten disciples heard that James and John had asked Jesus about sitting at His side in heaven, and they were indignant about it.

Scripture:  So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the people lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.  But it is not this way among you!  Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be the slave of all.  For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”  Mark 10:42-45

Thoughts/questions:  Jesus recognized the issue with the two disciples and the others who were responding to them – they still sought to be elevated through the worldly standard of power and control.  Jesus teaching is clear.  His standard if different!  Greatness comes from serving, and being first involves being so selfless that it would appear that one was a slave of others.

And Jesus didn’t set the standard without also setting the example – even to the point of giving His life.  What a goal – to serve and to give like we have never served or given before!!!  What a witness our lives would be if all Christ followers were known as giving servants to all!  WWJD?  He would give and He would serve – let us all follow His example!

Suggested Prayer:  Lord Jesus, my desire is to follow You.  Help me to do that by serving others and giving as You direct me . . .
