Words in Red – Interested or changed?

Day 1942: Heather, my daughter, and her kids are over for a week or more! Will be tired, but well worth it!!!

Context:  Jesus answers the religious leader who had just agreed with Him regarding God being one, loving Him above all, and then loving others as ourselves.

Scripture:  When Jesus heard him answer wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”  And from that point, no one dared to ask Him any more questions.  Later, while Jesus was teaching in the temple, He asked, “Why do the teachers of religious law claim that the Christ is the Son of David?  For David himself, speaking by the inspiration of Holy Spirit, declared, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.’  David himself calls Him Lord, so how then can He be his son?”  And the large crowd listened to Him with great interest.  Mark 12:34b, 35b-37

Thoughts/questions:  Jesus consistently challenged people to go deeper and beyond the norm!  And what was their response? – they listened to Him with great interest!!!

For us, we read His ‘words in red’ and we don’t listen to Him speak, but the results should be similar.  While living a life of strength and purpose and preaching love for God and others, Jesus also constantly challenges us to add to the good we already do, and to make the necessary changes in regards to the ‘not so good’ areas of our lives.

Do we listen/read merely with great interest and walk away unchanged, or do we accept Jesus’ continual call to seek first God’s kingdom, not our own?  Our culture keeps us very busy, but we must TAKE the time to always reflect deeply on His loving and inspiring words!

Suggested Prayer:  Jesus, change me from the inside out!  Please help me to act on Your words, not just listen . . .
