Words in Red – All of Me!

Day 1943:  Have a blessed day!!!

Context:  Jesus continued teaching the crowd.  He later responded to the people giving money to the temple treasury focusing on a widow who only put in a fraction of a penny.

Scripture:  “Watch out for the teachers of religious law.  They love to parade around in flowing robes and like respectful greetings in the marketplace.  And how they love to have the chief seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.  Yet they cheat widows out of their property while making a show with their lengthy prayers.  Such men will be punished most severely.”  “Truly I say to you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all of the others have given.  For they gave out of their surplus, but she, even though very poor, put in all she owned; all she had to live on. Mark 12:38-40, 43, 44

Thoughts/questions:  Widows take the spotlight in these verses.  Many historians believe that Joseph, Jesus’ earthly father, died when Jesus was a teen giving Him first hand experience being an orphan and living with Mary, a widow!  When my Dad died leaving my Mom a widow, I saw how much help she needed in almost all areas of her life.  Ask God to place a widow on your heart and do what you can to help her!

This story of the widow and her gift certainly is a situation in which I would love to know the ‘rest of the story’.  Just what did happen to this poor widow after she gave all she had to live on?  Did miracles instantly occur to bring her financial security or ?? Even though we don’t know what happened to her, her example to us remains, with the key word being ‘all’.

Whether it be finances or any other aspect of our lives, God desires our ALL!  ‘All to Jesus I surrender . . .’  May these words not just be part of a song, but may they be the signature of our lives!

Suggested Prayer:  Jesus, You have all of me . . .
