Words in Red – Be on guard!

Day 1946: Rain in CA today!!!!

Context:  Jesus continues His talk on end times.

Scripture:  “You must be on your guard!  You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues.  On my account you will stand before governors and kings as a testimony to them.  And the gospel must first be preached to all nations.  But when you are arrested and stand trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say.  Just say whatever is given you at that time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.”  Mark 13:9-11

Thoughts/questions:  “You must be on your guard!”  This is good advice from Jesus whether this is the end times or not.  There is a LOT to guard against!  The obvious is often not our greatest challenge, as we also have to be on guard to avoid having earthly ‘good’ supplant our spiritual ‘best’.

Also, as the end times approach, we must be on our guard as we can be deceived into thinking that if events aren’t good, then God is not involved.  When we examine the whole life of the one we follow, Jesus, we see that events we would consider as ‘bad’ (His agony, pain and death) eventually resulted in our ‘good’!  If God’s only Son went through this for others, we, as adopted children, should not be surprised when God asks us to do the same.  Be on your guard as you trust the living God of the universe within everything – even if it may seem ‘bad’ at the time!!!

It is not you speaking!!!  When we trust God for even the words coming out of our mouths, we exhibit complete reliance on Him.  We will probably encounter many very challenging situations before the end times truly arrive.  When you do, say a quick prayer before you speak and allow Holy Spirit to be the One who directs your speech – then watch (and listen) God work!!!

Suggested Prayer:  Holy Spirit, I need You to keep me on guard at all times . . .
