Words in Red – Betrayal?

Day 1956: TGIF: Thank God I’m Forgiven!!!

Context:  Jesus and His disciples were eating the Passover meal.

Scripture:  As they were reclining around the table eating, Jesus said, “The truth is, one of you will betray me; one who is here eating with Me.”  They were grieved and one by one they began to ask Him, “I’m not the one, am I?”  Jesus replied, “It is one of you twelve; one who dips into the bowl with Me.  The Son of Man will go just as it has been written about Him, but woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man.  Far better for him if he had never been born.”  Mark 14:18-21

Thoughts/questions:  It is easy to view Judas’ betrayal of Jesus as simply part of a designed plan and not sense the emotion that this betrayal must have had on Jesus.  All of us have been part of a family, team, or group in which the unity of the members was paramount and when that group functions as one, it is magical!  But when someone within the group is in opposition, all kinds of chaos can result.

Any form of betrayal is especially hard on the leader, and for Jesus to have one of only twelve be disloyal to Him to the point of handing Him over to those who sought His death, must have hurt Him deeply. Extreme betrayal – the worst!  Jesus went through so much and Judas’ betrayal had to rank as one of the worst things that He went through.

I trust that we don’t also hurt Jesus by intentionally betraying Him through being silent when we should speak or trying to ‘fit in’ rather than taking a stand for Him!  Let this never be said of us!

Suggested Prayer:  Jesus, may I never betray You . . .
