Words in Red – Forgiveness!

Day 1958:  Back to words in red as the disciples struggle with their commitment level.

Context:  Jesus is talking with His disciples on the Mount of Olives.

Scripture:  “You will all desert me,” Jesus told them.  “For the Scriptures say, ‘God will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’  But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee and meet you there.”  Then Peter responded, “Even if everyone else deserts you, I never will.”  “Peter,” Jesus replied, “The truth is that this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”   Mark 14:27-30

Thoughts/questions:  What a loving, forgiving Savior Jesus is!  Peter twice stated vehemently that he would never deny Jesus, and all of the other disciples agreed.  We know that within 24 hours each one had disavowed any affiliation with Jesus, BUT we also know that each one of those disciples eventually gave their life as martyrs for the same Jesus.  At this time, their words were simply words; later, their words cost them their lives.

They lied straight to Jesus face and later denied Him.  Sadly, we may do the same!  We promise Him we’ll stop this or start doing that, and within a short period of time our words have meant nothing -merely words.  BUT, unbelievably, Jesus also forgives us and gives us a brand new start each day no matter how much we have messed up the previous day.

Forgiven – INDEED!  The disciples didn’t consider this forgiveness to be a license to sin, but they all changed their ways resulting in the maximum commitment.  We are to do the same!  Jesus wants us to continue to commit to Him that we’ll start or stop things; He knows we may not follow through 100%; He forgives us when we don’t reach that bar; and then He doesn’t forsake us – rather He helps us to grow in our faith and press onward!

What a friend we have in Jesus!!!  Our Savior, our God, our Lord, our Friend!!

Suggested Prayer:  Dear Jesus, thank You for being patient with me . . .
