Fruit of the Spirit — God’s peace!

Day 1972:  Peace – today’s fruit of the Spirit might be the most difficult to consistently reflect.  Let’s spend some time seeking the ‘peace that passes understanding.’

Scripture: (Jesus’ words put in first person) Peace is the gift Jesus has left for me.  His peace is given to me, and it isn’t like the peace the world gives. My heart should not be troubled, neither should it be afraid.  John 14:27  Jesus spoke these things so that in Him I can find peace. In this world I will experience tribulations, but I should take heart, for He has overcome the world! John 16:33

Thoughts/questions:  In the book I highly recommend, The Highlander’s Last Song, by George MacDonald, a question is posed amid the story line as to what is the most important word in the English language.  Given this is about peace, you might expect that to be the answer, but it wasn’t.  The answer was the word – ‘ONE.’  When I first read this, I was skeptical of its truth, but after dwelling on it, I realized the potential of that word.

God wants us to be ‘one with Him’ and with every one! Peace may be simply a by-product of being ‘one’ with everything.  Striving for peace is contradictory.  Becoming ‘one’ is peace.  If you are ‘one’ in your family, there will be peace in your home.  If a team functions as ‘one’, they have peace.  When a business venture proceeds as ‘one’, there is peace.  It is a place of peace when a church functions as ‘one’.  When our internal struggles cease and we are at ‘one’ within ourselves, we have peace.  When we are ‘one’, we are at peace.

And it all begins by being one with your Creator.  Peace with the God of peace is the foundation for being one in all of our relationships.  Today, be at peace with God by making sure you have eliminated the gap between yourself and a holy God by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

Suggested prayer:  Creator God, thank You that I can be at peace with You because of what Jesus has done for me . . .
