Fruit of the Spirit — His Fruit or Not?

Day 1193:  This is the last devotion on the fruit of the Spirit! These devotions blessed my life, and I trust they did yours as well!

Scripture:  My sinful nature can find expression in a variety of ways:  immorality, impure thoughts, seeking lustful pleasure, idolatry, demonic activities, hatred, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, divisions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and other kinds of sin.  I am warned again that if I live like this, I will not inherit the kingdom of God.  But when I yield control of my life to God, His Spirit produces in me the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; no laws are written to stop me from exhibiting these qualities.  Galatians 5:19-23

Thoughts/questions: Laws are written to control what we ‘do’ – can’t speed, steal, murder, etc., BUT nowhere can there be regulations about who we can ‘be’!  Who ‘we are’ CAN be a daily manifestation of who ‘God is’, and no law can stop that!

Life definitely stirs us up – in good ways and bad.  When we do get stirred up, what comes out in terms of our behaviors is what we are filled with.  When stirred up, if we are filled with hate, we respond with hate.  If we are filled with peace, we can maintain that peace within life’s stirrings.  So let’s look at the difference between having the fruit of the Spirit fill our lives versus having our sinful nature in control.

Love or jealousy;  Joy or hatred; Peace or divisions; Patience or outbursts of anger; Kindness or selfish ambition; Goodness or seeking lustful pleasures; Faithfulness or carousing; Gentleness or quarreling;  Self-control or immorality.

When we started the fruit of the Spirit, you were asked to pick one you wanted to focus on.  Now, please let the Lord speak to you regarding an area you are challenged by and take the time to reread the devotional days focusing on that fruit.  Then, dedicate yourself to daily demonstating that characteristic of the living God!

Suggested prayer:  Holy Spirit, help me to be so filled with God that I show who You are to those around me every day . . .
