Daily Readings — Misplaced love?

Day 2021: Another Sunday helping my son with His house – blessed to serve!

Scripture: “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” Deuteronomy 6:5

Thoughts/questions: How an argument if framed can confuse the real issue. For example, in the U.S., abortion is framed by the media as a woman’s rights issue (even though many aborted babies are males) resulting in a certain line of discussion. If framed as a question of the life of the baby, an entirely different discussion would ensue.

Currently in the U.S., same sex marriage is being framed as a question of those who love being treated equally. Headlines read, “Love Wins!” Possibly Tina Turner’s song, ‘What’s love got to do with it?’ is appropriate here???

Jesus reiterated today’s verse, so it is obviously important to God! When considering love and how to legally support love, we can get entangled in many varieties of issues. However, God’s desire is clearly stated – we are to love Him above ALL. Rather than getting caught up with who loves whom and how they are able to express that love, we would do well to heed Jesus’ words.

For ourselves and others, let’s pay attention to the number one thing: Am I loving God above all? Is my primary concern that others have that same relationship with Jesus, or have I gotten caught up in peripheral relationships? Governmental concerns and political activism have their place, BUT our number one concern is this – are my actions promoting the love of God in others or have they become a detriment to what God considers to be the number one thing?

Suggested prayer: Father God, may I love the way You love . . .
