Daily Readings — Consider the Hearer!

Day 2028: Spending my Monday w/a couple of grandkids. I trust yours is blessed as well! Continuing a short series on ‘words.’

Scripture: Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you, Reprove a wise man and he will love you.  Proverbs 9:8  Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of your words. Proverbs 23:9

Thoughts/questions: Our words – so important especially as we communicate truth in today’s world. Too often our tongue is out of control; at other times we speak with wisdom; but these verses remind us to always consider to whom we are speaking.

The same reproof spoken to a fool or scoffer will be responded to much differently than the response of a wise person. The wise accept the words as constructive criticism (see tomorrow’s post) and will thank you for it. No so with scoffers. No, they will turn our words against us; we will be made to look foolish; and they will hate us for trying to be helpful.

Words of reproof at appropriate times need to be spoken; however, not only are we to consider our words, but also we must analyze who is receiving those words. We then may proceed, but often we will be silent!

Suggested prayer: Father God, may my tongue glorify You and may any words of reproof I might speak be spoken to the wise . . .
