Daily Readings — Truth, Love, or Both?

Day 2031: More fishing with one of my grandsons today! Last post regarding our ‘words.’

Scripture:  Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ.  Ephesians 4:15

Thoughts/questions: Instead is the way this verse starts. Instead of what? Merely speaking the truth regardless of its reception. A tactless expounding of truth? Instead of simply showing love? Allowing the absence of truth to be tolerated as an expression of enabling love?

Yes, we need an ‘instead’ if we are doing the above. We must love! We must speak the truth! Therefore, we must speak the truth in love!

Childlike thoughtless speech? No, but an ever maturing into the image of Jesus use of our communication skills, spoken or written! The truth in love – what a guide for us to follow as we depend on God’s help because we can’t do it ourselves!!!

If ‘words’ are troubling to you, the last 5 daily posts should be of help!

Suggested prayer: Dear Lord, I need Your help. My tongue so often fears and remains silent, or speaks hastily and hurts those listening. May I seek maturity and always speak the truth in love . . .
