Daily Readings — Conformed to this world?

Day 2037: Bless my soul, O Lord – oops, Bless the Lord, O my soul!!!

Scripture:  Whatever you do, work at it wholeheartedly as though you were doing it for the Lord and not merely for people. Colossians 3:23   So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:24

Thoughts/questions: When you choose to follow Jesus, you cannot do this and be conformed to the world at the same time. No, you are to be transformed – by the renewing of your mind. (Rom.12:2)

This is especially true when we focus on the results of what we’re doing, instead of the process! Jesus said to focus on the present moment and during that moment, Paul states that it doesn’t matter ‘what’ you’re doing – just do it heartily unto the Lord – let Him take care of the results (implied)!

However, early on the world tries to conform us to its standard. We are asked, ‘What grade did you get on the test?’ ‘Did you win?’ ‘What are you going to be when you grow up?’ It’s all about the bottom line, with no emphasis on the process of getting there or who we are as a person while ‘doing’ whatever it is we are doing.

As we age, it gets worse. ‘What college are you going to and will your grades get you accepted?’ ‘Now that you’re older, what career choice are you making?’ And even in recreational sports, we still focus on who won! The pressure to achieve gets stronger and stronger.

But God says be transformed! He tells us to ‘do’ today and let tomorrow take care of itself (as He will take care of all of our tomorrows!) This does not mean we can quit, hit the beach, and do ‘whatever’ we want. No, whatever we do, we do wholeheartedly! But we are at peace because we’re focused on the process and let God worry about the results!

Today, what’s your focus? The process of whatever you’re going through or the possible results of your activities? Maybe it is time to ‘transform’ your thinking???

Suggested prayer: Lord God, I get so caught up in what’s going to happen instead of what is happening. Please give me peace as I try to take one day at a time . . .
