Daily Readings — Why and What!

Day 2043: Middle of that work week! Enjoy (I sort of remember what that was like . . .)

Scripture: Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. Matthew 9:20

Thoughts/questions: Jesus healed this woman’s issue after she fought through a crowd surrounding Jesus who was on His way to raise Jairus’ daughter from the dead.

Two things about this woman: She knew why she was touching Him and she knew what to touch! The why: she had a purpose in what she did. She believed she would be healed if she merely touched the hem of His garment. She had to fight to get to Him as He was walking and in the midst of a probably mostly male crowd. But the ‘why’ was super important to her! How’s your why? Are you just going about ‘doing’ or is your doing replete with purpose? Make sure you know your purpose and act accordingly!

The what: She didn’t just touch Him, she touched the hem of His garment. Important because of what that hem represented in the Old Testament and by touching just that spot, she was acknowledging Jesus as the Messiah!!! So just ‘what’ are you doing? Potentially OK things but with no eternal consequences or impact? Your ‘whats’ may not need a revolution, but they may need a bit of a shake-up! Time to change a bit????

Suggested prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to find purpose in everything, and to intentionally do the things You have called me to do . . .
