Daily Readings — Embrace the Journey!

Day 2051: Summer is going by fast – enjoy those summer days and nights . . .

Scripture: Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men. Colossians 3:23

Thoughts/questions: The previous two God2me posts shared analogies regarding difficult situations. Those situations are part of our everyday ‘doing’ and as humans, we tend to want to get to the bottom line. What’s my grade, Did we win, Did I get the job – all focused on what we ‘end’ up getting. However, today’s verse reminds us that God’s focus is not what we ended up with, but how we got there!

It’s how you played the game, not whether you won or lost. It’s did you do your best, not what your grade was. It’s ‘doing’ the process, not did you get the job, the raise, the whatever!

So when difficulties arise, we want them to end, to learn what we are to have learned, to get this behind us as soon as possible. Yet God doesn’t speak regarding the ends, He talks to us about the ‘doing.’ Are we faithful in the doing? Or does our day to day get lost in the search for the final product?

Our way or God’s way? May we always be faithful to do our work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men – then let Him take care of how things end up!

Suggested prayer: Sovereign Lord, help me to focus on each and every day; to heartily do my ‘doing’ just for You; and trust You to take care of the results!
