Psalm 103 — Want God’s Compassion?

Day 2153: Continuing with just who our amazing God is using Psalm 103! Today’s verse is in bold.

Scripture: For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him. He has removed our sins from us as far as the east is from the west. Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. Psalm 103:11-13

Thoughts/questions: Fathers are to reflect God to their children, yet the Psalmist reverses that and writes how God’s heavenly relationship to His children is similar to an earthly father’s.

Compassion – Sadly, that wasn’t always my first response with my children. However, then I would realize their heritage and compassion grew!!!

For God, compassion IS His first response to those who fear Him. Fear – not solely being afraid, but combining respect, honor, reverence, awe, and a bit of basic fear! A child who has that attitude towards their parents would rank high in the ‘child of the year’ category!!!

God knows our weaknesses, and is compassionate upon us when we truly try! Try to fear Him; respect Him, be in awe of Him, honor Him, and reverence Him as The Almighty!

Want God’s compassion? YES! OK, then it’s our turn to ‘fear’ Him! He will come through with His role of having compassion – How are you doing with yours?

Suggested prayer: Almighty God, may my thoughts turn to You more often than they focus on me . . .
