Daily readings — Internal vs. External!

Day 2189: Headed home with a last stop near Sacramento to see our foster daughter and her family. Can’t wait to get home!!!

Scripture: But the LORD said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” I Samuel 16:7

Thoughts/questions:  We know that God looks at the heart, our ‘internal package,’ where humanity looks at our appearance or ‘external package.’ We also know that we should do the same, but sadly we often get caught up by conforming to the world’s standards.

Let’s get transformed by the renewing of our minds! (Romans 12:2’d). The questions we ask our friends, children, and grandchildren demonstrate our interest and priorities, so they should be questions about their inner package; however, they usually are not.

Examples: I once asked my step father-in-law how his spiritual life was doing. He responded that he had been involved with church all of his life and I was the first person to ask him that. Why??? We ask people about their work, health, hobbies, families – good questions, but ones which focus on the external package. Why????

What message are we sending when 99% of our questions focus on their external package? A message regarding what is important to us! This should not be so.

Time to change. If we care about our friends inner package, their heart, let’s have our questions reflect just that!!! How are you doing spiritually? Has God been doing anything in your life lately? Have you been consistent with your daily devotions or time with God? and more!

Tomorrow – the impact on our children and grandchildren!

Suggested prayer: Lord God, help me to truly love those around me and to show it by my words . . .
