Mother Teresa — Humility!

Day 2201: Another Friday to Thank God I’m Forgiven!

Scripture:   (Jesus speaking) “The greatest among you must be a servant.  For whoever exalts themselves will be humbled, and whoever humbles themselves will be exalted.”  Matthew 23:12

Thoughts/questions:  Humility – a virtue we all should have more of!  Mother Teresa states, “Humility is the mother of all virtues; purity, charity, and obedience.  It is in being humble that our love becomes real, devoted, and ardent.  If you are humble, nothing will touch you – neither praise nor disgrace, because you know who you are.  If you are blamed, you will not be discouraged.  If they call you a saint, you will not put yourself on a pedestal.”

We often think of humility regarding the ‘call you a saint’ category, as that is more obvious.  However, what about humility when ‘you are blamed’?  When bad things are said about us or we are treated unfairly, do we justify an aggressive, defensive reaction?  Maybe this is an even harder test of our humility!  Jesus and Mother Teresa remind us that we are to humble ourselves in the good AND the bad!

It’s easy to be humble around people with tremendous talent – if I’m playing basketball with players of limited ability, I might be tempted by pride, but put me in a Lakers’ practice and now I’m really humble!!!

Sometimes we forget how great our God really is.  If we actually met Him in all of His glory – humility would not be a problem that day!  He is God!  AND He is a God who has promised to lift us up!!!

Suggested prayer:  Father God, thank You for ALL that You are.  Remind me to humble myself, so You don’t have to humble me . . .
