Biblical Phrases — Repent; be Baptized!

Day 2205: October’s moving right along . . .

Scripture: Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?” Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins . . .” Acts 2:37-38a Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death. II Corinthians 7:10

Thoughts/questions: When we error or fall short, it often leads to sorrow. But too often the sorrow is for the hurt we caused ourselves or others. God’s focus is different.

His desire is for us to experience a sorrow that leads to repentance. And that repentance (a deep sorrow regarding our personal wrong doings) is referencing the wrong done, not the impact of what was done.

When we realize the magnitude of our wrong doings, we are to repent and be baptized! To turn away from our previous lifestyle and be washed clean in the waters of baptism!

When you sin, are you merely sorrowful or do you repent? God only recognizes repentance! And if you haven’t been baptized, seriously consider it!

Suggested prayer: Living God of the universe, help me to always take full responsibility for everything I do . . .
