Biblical Phrases — Only One Thing!

Day 2207: Have our beautiful granddaughter, Autumn, for the weekend!!! TGIF! Continuing our series on 2/3 word biblical phrases.

Scripture: But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41,42

Thoughts/questions: While Martha worried about and concentrated on taking care of hospitality details, Mary turned her attention solely to Jesus.

While observing both in action, He must have reflected on the human condition of misplaced priorities. In response, Jesus immediately goes to the bottom line. Because of His eternal nature, Jesus KNOWS what’s really important and zeroes in on just that!

Only one thing! There are many choices and areas in which to concern ourselves with, but bottom line, the only real choice is to put Jesus above ALL others. Other people, other things, other events – and ‘other’ you can think of!

Today there will be many things to worry about and things that could bother you. Jesus says only one thing in necessary. The choice is yours!

Suggested prayer: Jesus, help me to push away anything that takes me away from You . . .
