Biblical Phrases — Set you Free!

Day 2209: Blessings on your Sunday as we continue our series on 2/3 word Biblical phrases!

Scripture: (Jesus speaking) “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”John 8:32   So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36  It was for freedom that Christ set you free . . . Galatians 5:1

Thoughts/questions: Freedom is a word cherished around the world. Our thoughts usually move towards personal freedom or to nations which grant their citizenry varying amounts of freedom.

And the Bible certainly has something to say about freedom. Jesus tells us that the truth and He Himself sets us free, as well as the interesting statement regarding being set free to stay free. Our freedom must be important to God!

Hebrews 12:1 tells us that sin entangles us – to be entangled would be the opposite of being set free! So to obtain freedom, we have to apply the truth of Jesus’ forgiveness and rid ourselves of sin. We are then free! Free to do whatever we want, or free to serve both God and our fellow man?

When sin is defeated (completely in heaven, yet partially now) in our lives, we move much closer to what God created us as – to be without sin and to serve without selfishness and in complete humility.

Yes, we have been set free! Let us all use our freedom to ‘freely’ serve!

Suggested prayer: Thank You Jesus for setting me free! May I never abuse my freedom, but always use it to serve You and others . . .
