I Peter 1:18-21 — The Most Precious Thing!

Day 2224: Excited to be heading to Korea, China, and DPRK tomorrow. Prayers appreciated!

Scripture:  This is a reminder to me that I was not redeemed with perishable things like silver and gold from what is for many an empty life handed down to them from their ancestors.  No, I was redeemed with the precious blood of Christ, the Lamb of God without spot or blemish!  He was chosen before the foundation of the world, but He has appeared in these last times for my sake.  Through Him, I am a believer in God who raised up Jesus from the dead and glorified Him, so that my faith and hope can be placed confidently in God.    I Peter 1:18-21

Thoughts/questions:  Redeem – to make something acceptable.  We don’t use this word much anymore, but because of Jesus’ death, we have been made acceptable to God.

But what about this blood issue?  Blood sacrifice almost seems barbaric, until one considers the value of blood.  God states in Leviticus that life is in the blood and therefore it is the most precious commodity of our biological system.  Only the most precious thing in a life can atone for the blackness of our sin.  God chose the blood of His Son because when all of it is given, it IS the most precious gift He could give.

It may seem unique in today’s world, but when God chose to take sinful lives and make them acceptable to Him, He had to take something of value that could not be matched, lost, or stolen; and He gave His perfect Son, Jesus, as the ultimate sacrifice for us.  He couldn’t have done any more for us than that – what are we doing for Him?

Suggested prayer:  Lord, thank You for redeeming me and making me acceptable in Your sight . . .
