I Peter 3:5-7 — Husbands and Wives!

Day 2238:  Blessings to you this wonderful Friday!!!

Scripture:  The way the women of old made themselves beautiful was by trusting God and being submissive to their husbands.  Sarah is an example as she obeyed her husband Abraham and called him her master.  I have become a child of hers when I do what is right without giving way to fear.  Likewise, husbands must be considerate while living with their wives.  Husbands should treat them with understanding, as they are weaker in some areas.  Also, husbands should understand that their wives are heirs with them of the grace of life, so that their prayers will not be hindered.    I Peter 3:5-7

Thoughts/questions:  It’s easy to submit to someone when we have no clue what we’re doing. However, when we are equal or possibly better at something than the other person, then we have a problem submitting!

Submitting (to yield, agree or defer) means we have to trust, as we cannot completely submit without trust.  It is difficult enough to trust the living God of the universe, much less a mere human.  But trust is foundational to a marriage relationship, and God’s word provides a map for us to follow in this area.

A husband who is considerate of his wife’s strengths and weaknesses and treats her in an understanding way, provides an environment in which it is beneficial for the wife to submit.  A considerate understanding husband would never do two things.  One, ask his wife to do something she is incapable of physically doing, and 2) do something himself when he knows that his wife is better qualified.

Husbands – trust God, and be considerate and understanding of your wife.  Wives – trust God, and submit to Him by submitting to your husband!

Suggested prayer:  Father God, help me to submit my will to You and let You work in my life through my spouse . . .
