I Peter 5:1-4 — A Life of Service!

Day 2239: Have a joy filled Wednesday!!!

Scripture: Peter now encourages the church elders, as a fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ and as one who will also share in the glory that is to be revealed.  Elders should care for God’s flock entrusted to them.  They should willingly take care of it, not under compulsion.  Not for what they can get out of it, but for service to them.  They should not lord it over those entrusted to them, but they should lead by example.  And when the Chief Shepherd appears, they will receive the unfading crown of glory!  I Peter 5:1-4

Thoughts/questions:  Although most of us are not elders, yet we are in some kind of leadership position or have people who look to us for guidance.  This is our ‘flock’! Probably we are doing this willingly or voluntarily, but we still need to check our motivation.

When we are serving our ‘flock’, we will be blessed and that should bring an inner feeling of purpose and wellbeing.  That is how God works.  To get, we give! Jesus said that the first shall be last, so if we serve while prioritizing ourselves as #1, we will be last.  But in serving/guiding/or leading the people God has entrusted to us, we will be first by being last!

The Chief Shepherd!!!  HE is the Chief caretaker of ALL of the people in our lives, but He has chosen to use us to do most of the actual work.  What a privilege and honor it is for us to be given this responsibility and resulting joy!  Put your ‘flock’ first in serving them and let God take care of you!

Suggested prayer:  Lord, thank You for trusting me to do Your work in the lives of those You have given me.  Help me to help them . . .
