I Peter 5:8-10 — Stand Firm!

Day 2241: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!!

Scripture:  I am to be careful and be on the alert, for the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour.  I must resist him and stand firm in my faith, knowing that Christ followers around the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  I Peter 5:8-10

Thoughts/questions:  Be careful and be on the alert! An earlier devotional shared about the ‘roaring lion’ as being the weak oldest lion who tries to scare its prey.  Powerless himself, his tool is to get his prey to make a ‘rational’ decision to go in another direction – a direction leading to their death.  We must be careful as to where our spiritual life is headed and not allow our ‘rationaiized’ decisions to take us away from God and into spiritually dangerous territory.

For others however, we MUST be on the alert.  We are pretty in tune with our own battles and need to be careful, but ALL of our senses must be on the alert to discern how we can help our ‘flock’ (see Day 238)!  Pay attention to those around you today and every day. Be ALERT to what may be going on in their lives and seek God for ways you may be able to help them!

Stand firm in my faith!  This is what Nehemiah did when the people of Israel sinned – “I contended with them and cursed them and struck some of them and pulled out their hair and made them swear by God (to stop sinning).”  OK, we’re not going to go that far, but we all probably need to move a bit closer to ‘standing firm’ as opposed to ‘sitting weakly’ regarding our faith!!!

Suggested prayer:  Lord, help me to be careful regarding my spiritual walk, be on the alert for ways to help others, and to stand firm in my faith . . .
