Proverbs — Proverbs 14:19-24

Day 2310: On vacation starting today visiting old friends!

Scripture:  Evil people will bow down before good people; the wicked will bow at the gates of the righteous.  Even their neighbors shun the poor, while the rich have many friends.  If I despise my neighbor, it is a sin, but I will be blessed by being kind to the needy.  Do not those who plot evil go astray, but mercy and truth come to me when I plan good.  In all my labor there is profit, but mere talk leads to poverty.  The crown of the wise is their riches, but the effort of the foolish yields only folly.  Proverbs 14:19-24

Thoughts/questions:  A short thought on each verse:  In Psalms 73, David  envied the prosperity of the wicked – until he considered their ‘end’.  Sometimes, the end of evil people happens on earth as they get caught in their schemes, but we know this; eventually ALL of us will reach our ‘end’ and then we will meet our Creator!

Karma teaches that the poor are getting what they deserve as they are living out their destiny from a previously misspent life; however, Jesus taught a better way – love your neighbor as yourself!  Rich or poor, we are to treat everyone the same, while always seeking ways to help the needy.

Mercy and truth are two of my favorite words.  Truth should be the only standard we use in making any and all decisions regarding our selves and the world around us, and mercy HAS to be in my future – I deserve judgment, but instead, God will extend His mercy!!!

Talk truly is cheap! Emotional, spiritual, and material poverty all result from merely talking and not working.  Work to achieve your goals as if it all depends on you, and pray with the attitude that it all depends on God!!!

When wise, our definition of riches changes.  Seek an eternal crown, as eternal riches will be ours!

Suggested prayer: Father God, thank You for Your mercy. Help me to be wise and apply Your word each day . . .
