Proverbs — Proverbs 15:7-13

Day 2313: Spring and Saturdays – two good times to refresh our bodies and souls!

Scripture:  My wise speech spreads knowledge; fools cannot do so.  The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but He delights in my prayers when I am righteous.  The Lord despises the way of the wicked, but He loves me when I pursue righteousness.  If I abandon the right path, severe punishment lies ahead, and whoever hates correction will die.  If the Lord knows the depths of death and destruction, He surely knows the depths of my heart.  Mockers resent correction, and they stay away from the wise.  When my heart is joyful, my face is cheerful, but a broken heart crushes the spirit.  Proverbs 15:7-13

Thoughts/questions: We don’t like to read words like severe punishment lies ahead; however, I’ve watched parents react very differently depending of the level of danger their child was in – a minor issue, not much of a response. But if their child was going out into the street and a car was coming, that parental reaction was much more severe.

Abandoning the right path has eternal implications, therefore, it is an extremely high level of danger.  God’s reaction is just like a parent!  The one leaving the right path MUST be corrected and have the opportunity to fix things; so severe punishment in a dangerous situation is a response of love with the goal of correction, not a punishment for no reason!

Also, why would God detest the sacrifice of the wicked? He always looks at the heart; what our motivation was; and the ‘why’ factor. When an external action does not match the heart, God is not pleased. How are you doing in that regard? Would outsiders be impressed, but not God? Maybe it’s time for a change of heart!!!

Suggested prayer:  Father, thank You for doing whatever it takes to keep me on the right path . . .
