Proverbs — Proverbs 19:6-10

Day 2337: May the Lord bless you and keep you . . .

Scripture:  There are always many who want to be on the good side of generous people, and everyone is a friend of those who give gifts.  If the brothers of a poor person hate him, how much more will his friends stay far from Him.  When I acquire wisdom, I am taking care of my own soul, and by making use of understanding, I will find good.  A false witness will not go unpunished, so if I tell lies, I will perish.  Riches do not correspond with a fool; much less for a slave to rule over princes.   Proverbs 19:6-10

Thoughts/questions:  The wisdom of Proverbs states that being a fool usually doesn’t bring any type of riches, as God’s system sets in motion horizontal rewards when we do things God’s way. These ‘rewards’ should not be our goal, but are more of a natural by-product of a Godly lifestyle. As Jesus stated, “Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you!

The almost exact repetition in verses 5 and 9 is too coincidental not to be important. When we repeat a matter even though we are not gossiping, are we being a false witness by exaggerating the event or stretching the truth to add humor or make ourselves look better?

We should never need to preface our words with ‘this is a true story’ as that implies that we lie about other ones – ALL of our stories are to be TRUE! And flat out lies – Never!!!  They are NOT God’s plan (I will perish) and can cause us to lose the trust of people we love, and more – Commit to a life of truth!!!

Suggested prayer:  Lord, Your words truly are words of life.  Help me to follow them with Your help every day . . .
