Proverbs — Proverbs 21:17-21

Day 2354Sunday worship Day!!! Welcome to May . . .

Scripture:  By loving pleasure, I will become poor; by loving wine and luxury, I will not become rich.  The wicked can become a ransom for the righteous, and the treacherous take the punishment for the upright.  It is better to live alone in the desert than with a contentious and quarrelsome partner.  When I am wise, my house is filled with treasures and choice food, but foolish people devour whatever they have.  When I pursue godliness and unfailing love, I will find life, righteousness and honor.  Proverbs 21:17-21

Thoughts/questions:  God will often make it so the treacherous take the punishment for the upright; howeverthe wicked seem to prosper in spite of their behavior.  Like David in Psalm 10, we can sometimes be frustrated regarding the successes and fortunes of those who seem so opposed to God, but we are only in the MIDDLE of the story.

For the benefit of our faith, God has given us actual accounts (I’ve never like the word ‘stories’ – making it seem like they were made up cute little stories) of people who lived by faith, and we get to read about the END of their lives.  In the book of Esther, Mordecai, Esther’s cousin, had gallows built for him by the treacherous Haman, but God used Esther’s courage to END the story by having Haman hung on those same gallows!  If you are in the MIDDLE of a challenging time which appears to have little hope, remember that the same God who took care of Esther, Mordecai, Joseph, Daniel, his three friends, and many more, WILL take care of you by the END of your story.   Read one of these great accounts and have faith!

Proverbs repeats the difficulties of living with a contentious and quarrelsome partner.  Issues arise in relationships – when they do, ask yourself this question, “Is quarreling about this issue worth it?”  We all can remember fights over things which later seemed so trivial!  Stop those issues before they start and STOP the quarreling!

Suggested prayer:  Almighty God, help me to have the faith of those who have gone before me.  I know You took care of them and You WILL take care of me . . .
