Proverbs — Proverbs 22:1-5

Day 2357:  Every day the heavens declare the glory of God – be sure to look up!!!

Scripture:  I should choose a good name over great riches, for it is better for me to be held in high esteem than to have silver and gold.  The rich and poor have this in common:  The Lord is the Maker of them both.  As a prudent person, I can foresee danger ahead and take precautions, whereas the simple keep going and suffer for it.  The rewards I receive from being humble and fearing the Lord are riches, honor, and life.  The paths of the wicked are filled with thorns and snares, and I am guarding my soul by staying far away from them. Proverbs 22:1-5

Thoughts/questions:  Has choosing a good name or being held in high esteem been something you’ve striven for?  Or does it smack of pride to make this a ‘goal’ instead of it being something that is simply the result of your lifestyle and beliefs?

If we consider great riches to be anything that directly benefits us personally, then it often becomes a choice between selfishly getting something ‘immediately’ or having a good response when our name is spoken ‘in the future’.  Let God guide your behavior as you earnestly seek to choose a good name over great riches!

God is a flat liner!  Rich or poor, small sins or large, famous or not – His standard for us is not a worldly standard which regularly fluctuates, but a heavenly one and ‘He is especially fond of each one of us!’

Suggested prayer:  Lord Jesus, Your name is above ALL names.  Help me to choose a good name every day . . .
