Proverbs — Proverbs 24:19-23

Day 2371: Grace and mercy – God blesses us with both! Wow!

Scripture:  I am not to fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the wicked.  For the evil have no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.  As God’s child, I am to fear the Lord and the king, and not join in with the rebellious.  For if I do, my calamity will rise suddenly, as who knows the ruin that can come from the Lord and the king?  Here are some further wise sayings for me:  It is wrong for me to show favoritism when passing judgment.   Proverbs 24:19-23

Thoughts/questions:  There seems to be more and more evildoers, but we are not to fret –this seldom used word means more than to worry.  It involves excessive behaviors that cause us to be uneasy, and it gnaws away at us.  Legitimate concern is one thing, but fretting is over the top.  Sinners sin – if we expect consistently good behavior from them, we will be disappointed, and if we fret over them, we lose again.  Concern yourself with your own issues, and let God take care of the evildoers.

When we refuse to accept authority and live in rebellion against God or government, calamity is knocking at our door.  However, when we submit to God, He promises that we WILL avoid calamity, defined as disaster or misfortune which causes extreme havoc, distress, or misery!  For the rebellious, calamity is not a matter of ‘if’, but a matter of ‘when.’  Make sure you live under the security of the living God of the universe by submitting your will to Him.

Suggested prayer:  Father God, help me to take the log out of my own eye before fretting about the speck in others . . .
