Proverbs — Proverbs 27:22-27

Day 2388: May the Lord bless you and may you bless Him in return!!!

Scripture:  I cannot remove foolishness from fools, even by grinding them like grain in a mortar and with a pestle.  One should always know the state of their flocks, and pay attention to their lambs; for riches don’t last forever, and a crown does not endure through all generations.  When the hay is harvested, new growth appears, and the grass from the hills is gathered in; the lambs will provide clothing and goats can be sold for the price of a field.  And there will be plenty of goat’s milk to provide for families and their servants.  Proverbs 27:22-27

Thoughts/questions: Daily trying to help your loved ones who struggle as fools ends up with you being an enabler.  The other extreme of writing them off destroys the relationship completely.  ‘Points of redemption’ are specific times when you attempt to help.  Over time, they must be spaced further and further apart and with decreasing amounts of help and lowered expectations. However, one must continue to try as you never know the ‘point’ at which the one you love will finally make the changes needed.

Flocks, lambs, hay, goats – probably not part of your daily experience!  However, financial fundamentals are mandatory. 80-10-10 works for many: 80% for your needs; 10% for God/charitable giving; 10% for savings. If you’re just starting out, it’s a great way to start. If this looks too difficult, try 90-5-5 with a goal of getting to 80-10-10 by moving a % point every time you get a raise and you won’t even feel it!

Suggested Prayer:  Lord, help me to love You with all of my heart and to be a good steward of what You have given me . . .
