Great Chapters in the Bible — I John 4

Day 2403:  What a truly exciting verse I John 4:4 is!!!

Scripture:  For I belong to God and have overcome them, as greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world.  These other people are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them.  But I belong to God and those who know God will listen to me, but those who do not belong to God do not listen to me.  This is how I can determine whether or not someone has the spirit of truth or the spirit of deception.  I John 4:4-6

Thoughts/questions:  Greater is He – What an awesome statement of who God is!  And we need to hear it, as so many times it ‘feels’ like God has taken the back seat regarding events in our lives or around the world and that He can’t or won’t do anything about it.  So, we have to be reminded that the reality of our God is that He is greater than anything that would come up against us!!!  So then why do we still feel that way sometimes?

The Bible teaches that He is greater, that He truly cares, and that He is with us; but circumstances and feelings often don’t validate that, so there is a problem.  And that problem may be that it is one thing to know ‘about’ God, and another thing to ‘know’ Him.  As the God character in ‘The Shack’ said to the main character – ‘You wouldn’t think that way if you really knew me.’  When we REALLY KNOW Him, we have the confidence that He IS greater than anything!!!

Our experiences with Him help us to know Him better, and we can also learn through other things like ‘Footprints’ as when there is only one set of footprints instead of two, it is then that He is carrying us.  Or the cross – a time of deep sorrow on Friday that by Sunday changed to the most important event in history.  Or that time He brought YOU through something in a way in which only He could.  Know about Him for sure, but prioritize getting to know Him.

Suggested prayer:  Great God, help me know You better and experience Your greatness . . .
