Great Chapters in the Bible — Colossians 3

Day 2407:  This is the last day on Colossians 3.  I trust it is now one of your Great Chapters in the Bible!

Scripture:  And whatever I do, I am to work at it with all my heart, as though I were working for the Lord rather than for people, since it is the Lord who will reward me with an inheritance.  It is the Lord Christ I am to serve.  But if I do what is wrong, I will receive the consequences of the wrong which I have done; as God has no favorites who can get away with evil.  Colossians 3:23-25

Thoughts/questions:  A few thoughts on the last 3 verses before a summary of the whole chapter.  Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s quote puts these verses into perspective – “I’m still discovering, right up to this moment, that is only by living completely in this world that one learns to have faith.  I mean living unreservedly in life’s duties, problems, successes and failures, experiences and perplexities.  In so doing, we throw ourselves completely into the arms of God.”

The last three verses reinforce the theme of the chapter – throwing ourselves completely into the arms of God.  Go ahead, take a moment and feel yourself ‘thrown’ into His arms, and you are the one doing the throwing.  Do it!  Throw yourself into His arms and rest in Him!!!

Colossians 3 establishes the worldview that God plans for us.  That worldview transports our thoughts heavenward.  It has us live a life with Christ as the center.  Our new worldview asks us to separate our new life from our old one by dying to old behaviors and putting on new ones.  It is a life that is lived without prejudice and is characterized by love and forgiveness.  Our new life has the peace of God overwhelm our spirit while His words fill us to the point that we overflow in songs of praise to Him.  We now live our roles as family members and workers with purpose – unto the Lord, not unto man.  Whatever we do, we do it with all of our heart – a heart transformed by God!

May Colossians 3 become one of your favorites!

Suggested prayer:  Lord, thank You for the words of this chapter.  Help me live them out daily . . .
