Proverbs — Proverbs 30:1-4

Day 2215:  Chapter 30 of Proverbs takes a bit of a twist.  Let’s see where God’s word leads us!!!

Scripture:  These are the sayings of Agur, the son of Jakeh; even the prophecy the man spoke to Ithiel, even to Ithiel and to Ucal.  Agur considered himself to be the most ignorant of men and without understanding.  He did not think that he had learned wisdom nor did he think he had knowledge of the Holy One.  Who has gone into heaven and come down?  Who holds the wind in His fists?  Who has wrapped up the waters in His garment?  Who has created all the ends of the earth?  What is His name and His Son’s name?  Surely you know!  Proverbs 30:1-4

Thoughts/questions:  It is said that the more we know, the more we realize how much we don’t know – Agur, whoever he was as no one is sure, is an example of this.  Probably quite a learned man, yet all of his learning resulted in him realizing that he had merely reached the tip of the iceberg called Jehovah, and this realization humbled him.

His questions demonstrate his awareness of the awesomeness of the living Creator God of the entire universe, and the obvious assumption is that there is only one answer, and it was not him! (or us!!!)  But we do know His name and His Son’s name!  So, the question becomes – what has that knowledge done to us?  The ‘us’ who cannot create, hold the wind, wrap up water, or leave earth and come back often act superior to God and become prideful regarding our talents, even though He is the One who gave us our talents – ironic isn’t it?

Let us join Agur in responding with complete humility before the living God!!!

Suggested Prayer:  Almighty and all-powerful God, keep me humble before You at all times . . .
