Proverbs — Proverbs 30:17-23

Day 2218:  Today, I’m thankful for my ‘too wonderful’ list – read on!

Scripture:  The eye that mocks a father and scorns obedience to a mother shall be pecked out by the ravens of the valley and will be eaten by the vultures.  There are three things that are too wonderful, no four that Agur could not understand:  the way of the eagle in the sky, the way of a snake on a rock, the way of a ship on the high seas, and the way of man with a woman.  This is the way of an adulterous woman who eats, wipes her mouth, and says, “I’ve done nothing wrong.”  There are three things that make the earth tremble – no, four it cannot endure:  a servant who becomes a king, fools when they are full of food, an unloved woman who is married, and a servant girl who supplants her mistress.  Proverbs 30:17-23

Thoughts/questions:  Family relations are touched on again in no uncertain terms!  When we go to God with our family issues and tell Him how ‘hard’ we have it, He responds with “I know what hard is” because of what He did with His own Son.  His words are spoken with love and without patronizing us, as He has experienced far more than He asks us to go through.  His purposes for us are often crystallized through the impact family has on us and we have on them – let us continually seek to do the ‘hard’, especially when it comes to family!

The sun, the expanse of the universe, water, and emotions are my list of four things ‘too wonderful’ for me – what’s your list like???  And on the other end, abortion, genocide, rebellious children, and starving people are my four things that make the earth tremble – yours?  Enjoy and be thankful for the wonderment of God’s creation, while always prayerfully considering ways God can use you to help reduce the earth’s trembling!

Suggested Prayer:  Most gracious and merciful God, help me to see the universe and people as You see them . . .
