Proverbs — Proverbs 30:29-33

Day 2220: Count your many blessings!!!

Scripture:  There are three things that are regal in their appearance; even four that are stately in their walk:  the lion, which is mighty among beasts and does not retreat from anything; the strutting rooster, the male goat; and a king when his army is around him.  If I have ever been a fool by exalting myself or by plotting evil, I should be quiet about it and cover my mouth with shame.  Just like the churning of milk produces butter and a blow to the nose causes bleeding, so my stirring up anger causes quarrels.  Proverbs 30:29-33

Thoughts/questions:  I guess erasers weren’t invented in Agur’s time – if he first had three, then four, why didn’t he just erase the three and only put four?  Maybe it is an indication that these are simply samples of the myriads of examples within God’s creation and 3 could be 4 or 5 or 5,000 – giving us the freedom to add our own to the list, as His creation cannot have a fixed number on it!  How Great Thou Art!!!

There seems to be so many instructions in Proverbs and the rest of the Bible regarding speaking less!  In these verses, we should definitely press our two lips together instead of speaking proudly or with evil intentions. We are not to defend our actions, but are to put our hand over our mouths, keep quiet, and react in humility!  Also, we are to remain silent when others are obviously angry!  We may make the most logical and rational statement, but when there is anger, those comments will only serve to stir up the already boiling pot!  Sometimes the only way to avoid quarrels is to not participate – cover our mouth!!

Suggested Prayer:  Most gracious and merciful God, I cannot measure Your greatness.  You are a great and awesome God . . .
