Proverbs — Proverbs 31:8-12

Day 2222:  May Holy Spirit fill you with peace during this summer (in the northern hemisphere) season!

Scripture:  I am to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves and for the rights of the destitute.  I must speak up, judge fairly, and defend the rights of the poor and needy.  An excellent wife, who can find her?  She is worth far more than rubies.  Her husband can trust her, and she will bring gain to his life.  She will bring good to him and not evil all of the days of her life!  Proverbs 31:8-12

Thoughts/questions:  Those who can’t speak for themselves, the destitute, the poor and needy – quite a list. God has promised that His mercies to me are new every morning, so every day is like a ‘new year’ has begun, so today (and everyday) is an appropriate day for resolutions!!  When considering the ones who can’t speak for themselves, there are many – unborn children, babies in foster care or in need, children without food or pure water, severely handicapped children, and even animals – ‘God, speak to my heart as to whom I am to speak up for and how to do it!’

Rights of the destitute – this word is defined as ‘lacking something’. This does not have to be starving or near death – just lacking in some area.  Is there someone you know who is physically or spiritually ‘lacking something?’  If so, are you doing anything to help give them what they don’t have?  Poor and needy – I see these words as one category, not two.  They are poor AND they are needy.  Some poor could have their needs met but make life choices which continue to undermine them.  Others are poor and needy as life has unexpectedly thrown them a curve.  Find them – help them!!!

Suggested Prayer:  Father, help me not to be silent, but to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves . . .
